7th Annual
Oscar Night® America

Midland Theatre
1228 Main
Kansas City, Missouri

Truly a night of glitz and glamour, Hollywood seemed a bit closer as Variety celebrated an evening with Oscar®. Hundreds of movie buffs filed into Kansas City's elegant Midland Theatre for an evening of great food, drinks, fabulous silent auction items and of course, to star gaze at Hollywood's finest on the silver screen. All in all, an elegant evening which raised over $40,000 in support of special needs children in Kansas City.
Guests entered the historic theatre upon a red carpet to find some of Kansas City's finest restaurateurs had prepared their house specialties. Men donned in tuxedo's and women in elegant gowns were observed throughout the lobby and auditorium enjoying the delicious cuisine, and placing bids on the exciting silent auction items.

An elegant array of hors d'oeuvres were prepared for the evening's guests by participating restaurants. Buca Di Beppo, Houston's, Fairway Grill, Jalpeno's, Semolina International Pasta Restaurant and The New Point Grille offered an elaborate spread for guests to enjoy. To top off the evening, Blue Bunny Ice Cream, Remington's Steak & Seafood Grille and The Roasterie served delicate desserts and coffees as the festivities continued. Absolute Catering put a Hollywood spin on the VIP Reception. The backstage of the Midland was transformed into an elegant reception. Guests were admitted with backstage all-access passes!
Silent auction tables filled with great items opened for bidding as guests arrived. Thanks to many generous donors across the city, thousands of dollars were raised to directly benefit the special needs of some very special children helped by Variety of Kansas City.
All eyes were glued to the crystal-clear screen as Steve Martin took center stage as the host of the 73rd Annual Academy Awards®.

Masters of Ceremony, comedian, David Naster, Channel 9 Weather Man Joel Nichols and Hosts of Z95.7FM's "Early Morning Show", Just Plain Dave, LA and Pistol Pete entertained guests during commercial breaks. The "Predict the Winner" Contest was a fun way for viewers to vote on which actors would take home the golden statuette. Round tip airfare was awarded to the contest's winner!

Oscar Night® America 2001 was a record setting year! We look forward to 2002 - see you on the red carpet!
