Truly a night of glitz and glamour, Hollywood
seemed a bit closer as Variety celebrated an evening with
Oscar®. Hundreds of movie buffs filed into Kansas City's
elegant Midland Theatre for an evening of great food, drinks,
fabulous silent auction items and of course, to star gaze
at Hollywood's finest on the silver screen. All in all, an
elegant evening which raised over $40,000 in support of special
needs children in Kansas City. |
| Guests entered the historic theatre upon a red
carpet to find some of Kansas City's finest restaurateurs
had prepared their house specialties. Men donned in tuxedo's
and women in elegant gowns were observed throughout the lobby
and auditorium enjoying the delicious cuisine, and placing
bids on the exciting silent auction items. |

An elegant array of hors d'oeuvres were
prepared for the evening's guests by participating restaurants.
Buca Di Beppo, Houston's, Fairway Grill, Jalpeno's, Semolina
International Pasta Restaurant and The New Point Grille
offered an elaborate spread for guests to enjoy. To top
off the evening, Blue Bunny Ice Cream, Remington's Steak
& Seafood Grille and The Roasterie served delicate desserts
and coffees as the festivities continued. Absolute Catering
put a Hollywood spin on the VIP Reception. The backstage
of the Midland was transformed into an elegant reception.
Guests were admitted with backstage all-access passes!

| Silent auction tables filled with great items
opened for bidding as guests arrived. Thanks to many generous
donors across the city, thousands of dollars were raised to
directly benefit the special needs of some very special children
helped by Variety of Kansas City. |

All eyes were glued to the crystal-clear screen
as Steve Martin took center stage as the host of the 73rd
Annual Academy Awards®. |

Masters of Ceremony, comedian, David Naster, Channel 9
Weather Man Joel Nichols and Hosts of Z95.7FM's "Early Morning
Show", Just Plain Dave, LA and Pistol Pete entertained guests
during commercial breaks. The "Predict the Winner" Contest
was a fun way for viewers to vote on which actors would
take home the golden statuette. Round tip airfare was awarded
to the contest's winner!
Oscar Night® America 2001 was a record setting year!
