Making a Difference is Sylvia's Way . . . CONGRATULATIONS
TO SYLVIA STONE! Variety entered
Sylvia’s life when local Tent 8 was re-chartered in 1974, and her husband
Martin became a member. Sylvia
participated heavily, despite the fact that
at that time
in the organization’s history, women were relegated to the Women’s
Auxiliary. Dedicated to the
works of Variety for the special needs children of Kansas City, Sylvia
assisted Martin and the Variety men on countless fundraisers, including
18 years of Telethons, raising thousands of dollars for area children’s
agencies. Being a member
of Variety Women’s Auxiliary was not enough ..
so, Sylvia began the movement to get the Variety membership
opened to women. The by-laws
were amended in the early 1980’s opening the membership, worldwide,
to include anyone, male or female, with a big heart and a desire to
help better the lives of children in need. For her many
years of service and dedication to the works of Variety for the special
needs children of Kansas City, Variety Tent 8 President Greg Hogue and
1st Vice President Nancy Pagel
were proud to name Sylvia Stone as the recipient of the prestigious
2nd annual “Quest for Kindness” award. Congratulations Sylvia! The Invitation read:
