The morning of Tuesday, October 17, 2006 loomed overcast, as though the heavens would open up with a downpour at any minute. But that didn't hinder the excitement of Variety's kids as they descended upon Carolyn's Country Cousin's Pumpkin Patch in Liberty, Mo. Looking with anticipation to seeing the baby farm animals, playing in the haystack maze, riding on the miniature locomotive and finally the hay-wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch to select a pumpkin to take home much overshadowed the thoughts of a little rain.But, they need not have worried. The day turned out to be unseasonably warm and the sun peeked through theclouds keeping the rain at bay. Thanks to Carolyn's, 182 kids and staff from four agencies were treated to all the above, plus they each received a complimentary bag with a Carolyn's coloring book and a free stick of Carolyn's homemade candy. To top off the day, before loading back on the buses to take them home, Variety's Joyce Hager-VanHoosier and Nadine Mummaw handed out treat bags to each which included a cold soda, a bag of chips and a lollipop from Hy-Vee, Inc. and a bag of sweet treats from Entemann's. There's nothing like a beautiful autumn day in the country at the pumpkin patch!
