It was a hot, a summer day at the end of July, when the buses and Variety Sunshine Coaches pulled into the parking lot at the AMC Parkway 14 Theatre and unloaded nearly 300 excited special needs youth 7 years of age and up. The outing; Variety Kid's Summer Movie Party. Together with AMC Theatres, Variety held a special screening of "Superman Returns," treating each attendee with a free popcorn and soft drink. The only thing cooler than sitting inside the air-conditioned theatre auditorium watching Superman save the world was the really cool gift bags distributed to each as they filed out. The gift bags were chocked full of movie memorabilia; t-shirts, caps, posters, games, and of course, candy, all donated by AMC and contributing film companies. All in all, it was a great way to spend a hot summer day in Kansas City.
