JOHNSON COUNTY BIKE CLUB

CHOOSES VARIETY

If you were looking for that something special to do on a lazy, hazy, crazy day of summer, the Johnson County Bike Club had the perfect solution:  just tune up the old bike, hop in the car and drive on out to the Baker University campus for a two-wheel ride across the rolling plains of Kansas.  And this year on August 8th, bikers not only enjoyed the outing, they rode for special needs children in the Greater Kansas City area with Variety the disnigated charity recipient.

According to event chairmen Rich Davis, Maggi Hacker, Ben Wilson and Doug Stone, the “Baldwin City Blast” appealed to both the serious riders and the more relaxed crowd because each biker could select the distance that fit his or her needs best.  Routes were marked from 25 to 100 miles.   The committee adds that the actual ride was only part of the fun.  Other activities on the Baker pavilion included music, food, and a host of  prizes.

However, there was always the possibility of a surprise.  And Mother Nature provided one that Sunday morning when the promise of an exceptionally beautiful summer day suddenly turned into a rain storm that affected the ride plans of nearly 500 bikers.   The weather may have “rained on their parade,” but the committee and riders were undaunted in their faith that next year will be even bigger and better, which equates to “bigger and better” for Variety’s kid’s.  Thanks JoCo Bike Club!
