Variety -The Children's Charity, occupies a unique place among not-for-profit organizations in the Greater Kansas City area. Known as Tent 8, it stands with 51 worldwide Tents that cross the oceans and span the continents. Its record for helping local children with special needs is a proud one. ..more than $6 million dollars raised since 1974.

Perhaps you know the story of a baby who was abandoned in a Pittsburgh, PA theatre just before Christmas in 1927. "Adopted" by a group of men engaged in the fledgling movie industry, Catherine Variety Sheridan quickly became a mascot for all children who need a helping hand. TODAY THE TRADITION CONTINUES! Variety dollars are put to work in ways that ennoble their purpose.

Founded in Pittsburgh as a result of the Baby Catherine incident, and for a time including only those in the entertainment industry, Variety today is enhanced by women and men of all walks of life. Members need only have a special place in their hearts for children who strive for a better life. Funds are raised through year-round projects, among them OSCAR NIGHT AMERICA, an annual HyVee sponsored golf tournament, and other special -events.

Operational costs are minimal with only one part-time associate, a working Board and hundreds of volunteers. More than 24 local (Greater Kansas City) not-for-profit agencies have received funding during the past 3 decades. In addition, through the Variety Trust Fund, individual children have been outfitted with expensive motorized wheelchairs, prosthesis devices and other aids critical to their special needs-
